Heart Body Scan Imaging Request & Remote Results Review
Heart Body Scan Imaging Request & Remote Results Review
This is a patient concierge request to have Dr. Paul’s Immediate Care place a medical order for you to have a CT Scan of your Heart, Lungs, Abdomen and Pelvis through an external imagining center.
Dr. Paul’s Immediate Care utilizes the imaging center at The Diagnostic and Wellness Center in the Division of Cardiology at Harbor-UCLA for the Heart Body Scan. We have the ability to expedite CT orders with this facility for our fee-for-service patients. Below is an overview of this scan according to this imaging center.
The Heart Body Scan is a combination of the Coronary Artery Calcium Heart Scan, Lung scan, Abdomen Scan & Pelvic Scan.
This non-invasive imaging uses 256 Slice CT imaging of the coronary vessels in the heart, lungs, abdomen and pelvis WITHOUT needles, injections or removal of clothing. You lie down fully clothed and pictures are taken over 30 seconds. The only risk is minimal radiation exposure, which is minimal (about the same as one x-ray of your abdomen). We use the most advanced equipment to keep the radiation doses at the lowest possible rates.
The Coronary Artery Calcium Scan (The HEART part of your scan) will determine the presence and extent of the atherosclerotic process (plaque) in your coronary arteries; through detection of calcium/plaque in your coronary arteries, aortic aneurisms and vascular disease.
The calcification that is measured is caused from the buildup of atherosclerosis (plaque) in the inner lining of the artery. As the plaque builds and hardens it can reduce and block the flow of blood through the artery. The plaque can rupture, become dislodged, or form a blood clot leading to a heart attack. The early detection of coronary calcium allows for the early detection of coronary artery disease (hardening of the arteries), which enables patients to make changes in their risk factors in order to stop, stabilize and perhaps even reverse the process. The calcium in the atherosclerosis is visualized and measured by a board-certified cardiologist and the report is available to the patient via their patient portal.
The Body Scan (The LUNG, ABDOMEN, PELVIC part of your scan). This part of your scan happens simultaneously as your CAC scan. Areas of the abdomen include: kidneys, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, abdominal aorta, adrenal glands, lymph nodes, spleen, and certain pelvic organs. This scan can detect lung tumors, kidney and liver tumors, calcified kidney stones and gallstones. It will detect abnormalities of the abdominal and pelvic organs. This scan is reviewed and reported by a board-certified radiologist and sent to your patient portal.
